Coach Erick Smith
Head Coach, Foil Program
Coach Erick brings over 10 years of fencing experience and has qualified for 10 Summer National Championship events. Erick served for four years as Purdue Men's Foil Captain and brings a competitive and motivating approach to our Foil program. Over the past 8 years of his coaching career, Erick has guided multiple athletes to national qualifications.
Coach Q&A
Q: Beyond coaching, what other experiences/achievements have you enjoyed within fencing?
A: With 8 years of experience as a fencing instructor, I have successfully guided over 40 students to qualify for various events at Nationals. Additionally, two of my students have competed in the FIE International Circuit, with the highest-rated student achieving a B rating.
Q: What goals do you have in your capacity at RFA?
A: My goals as a coach at RFA are: to develop a strong, competitive RFA foil presence both regionally and nationally; to provide a strong, positive, impactful athletic experience for youth in the Indy area; to build a diverse RFA community by making fencing accessible to all those interested.
Q: Any fun facts you'd like to share?
A: I grew up in Massachusetts.
I played Div 1 Baseball in High School.
I am an Aerospace / Astronautical Engineer.
